Fish is a very beneficial protein source for dogs that is packed with necessary nutrients. It’s also a great protein source for pets that have digestive sensitivities to traditional sources like beef and chicken. This is an easy recipe that uses limited ingredients to give your pup the nutrition that his body needs.
Fish is brain food. We’ve all heard that expression, right? That’s because it is filled with omega-3 fatty acids, including docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) which aids in brain development and function. The omega-3 fatty acids found in fish also aid in skin and coat health, support the immune system and help to reduce inflammation.
This recipe requires only 4 ingredients. It’s simple to prepare and can be frozen for use when you don’t have time to cook for your pup. Fish also provides an enticing aroma to your dog, which may prompt picky eaters or pets with no appetite to eat their dinner.
Fish and Veggie Omelet for Dogs
If you ask your veterinarian what the best indicator of your dog’s overall health and well-being is, they’ll likely tell you that it is your pup’s skin and coat condition. Proper nutrition may just be the easiest way to improve your dog’s skin and coat health, and most recipes that use fish as the protein source would be a good option. Feeding the right ingredients will balance the skin’s pH and stimulate the production of natural oils.
Recipe: Fish and Veggie Omelet for Dogs
Bell peppers are a safe and health vegetable choice for dogs. Red bell peppers are the most nutritious, but I happened to have a yellow pepper on hand when making this recipe. Red, yellow, green and orange bell peppers are all safe for dogs.

- 2 eggs
- 1/4 cup bell pepper (diced)
- 1/2 cup canned salmon
- 1 tsp. olive oil
Heat the olive oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Add the eggs to the pan and scramble. You can scramble before adding to the pan if you choose, but as I mention in my video guide above, it saves a dish and takes less time to just scramble them in the frying pan.
Add the fish and diced bell peppers to the eggs, break the fish into small pieces and continue to scramble. Allow the meal to cook for about 5 minutes, scrambling occasionally.
Allow the food to cool completely before serving to your dog.

How much to feed: I recommend feeding about 1/2 cup of food for every 20 pounds of body weight. This recommendation is for 2 servings per day. This is just a guideline. Lazier pets and senior dogs may not need as many. It is extremely important to consult your veterinarian about the best serving size for your dog.
How to store: You can store the leftover doggy omelet in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-5 days or freeze it and it will keep for up to 3 months. Keep in mind that this recipe includes no preservatives, so it won’t last nearly as long as commercial dog food.
