Doesn’t a cool treat help you feel better on a hot afternoon? Well, the same can be said for your dog. In fact, I like eating frozen snacks all year long, and my dogs do too! These frozen cheeseburger dog treats are a favorite among my pack, and I’m sure your pup will like them too.
Because of their unique digestive system, dogs are not able to process the lactose in traditional ice cream like humans can. To keep your pooch cool, you’ll have to find easily digestible alternatives to commercial ice cream. There are a number of commercial ice cream substitutes for dogs, but they aren’t all made with high quality ingredients.
I like to make homemade frozen dog treats for a couple of reasons. First, they’re healthier than most commercial alternatives. Secondly, you can cater the ingredients to your dog’s dietary needs and their personal preferences.
Most dogs will love these cheeseburger dog treats, but you can make some simple substitutions if your dog doesn’t. If your pup prefers chicken, for example, you could make cheesy chicken frozen treats by using shredded chicken and chicken broth in lieu of the beef ingredients in this recipe.
Frozen Cheeseburger Dog Treats
When you use ingredients that you select yourself, you can be sure that the homemade dog treats you are feeding Fido are healthy and safe for him. Try to select the best quality ingredients. I always look for organic, all-natural products that aren’t made with any fillers or artificial ingredients and colors.
Recipe: Frozen Cheeseburger Dog Treats
These are some of the most simple dog treats you’ll ever make. All you have to do is mix the ingredients together and freeze them. I typically freeze the treats overnight to make sure they’re completely frozen through. However, you should be able to feed them to your dog after about 4 hours in the freezer.

- 3/4 cup ground beef
- 1 cup low-fat shredded cheese
- 3/4 cup beef bone broth
- 3/4 cup water
Brown the ground beef in a small frying pan over medium heat. As it cooks, break the meat into small pieces, like you would if you were making tacos. Once browned, drain the grease and allow the meat to cool.
You can use an ice cream tray or a mini muffin pan to make these treats. No matter which type of tray you use, the instructions are the same.
Combine the bone broth and water in a measuring cup and set aside. Put about 1 tsp. of shredded cheese into the bottom of each opening. Fill the rest of the opening with ground beef. Pour the water and broth mixture over the beef and cheese to fill the opening.
As I mentioned, I typically freeze the treats overnight to make sure they’re completely frozen through. However, you should be able to feed them to your dog after about 4 hours in the freezer.

How to store: Store leftover treats in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 3 months.
